National Report on Schooling in Australia – January 2025 release

Five sections of the National Report on Schooling in Australia from the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA) have been updated with the latest information. The January 2025 release highlights progress against nationally agreed policy initiatives by Australia’s school education sector. Some of the highlights include:

  • The school attendance rates from Years 1-10 across all states and territories and school sectors in 2024 was 88.3%, down slightly from 88.6% in 2023.
  • The percentage of students with above 90 per cent attendance was 59.8% in 2024, down from 61.6% in 2023.
  • Student attendance rates and attendance levels have not returned to their pre-COVID levels. In 2019, national attendance rates were 91.4% and attendance levels 73.1%.
  • In 2024, 1,062,638 school students across Australia received an educational adjustment due to disability. This represents 25.7% of total enrolments, up from 24.2% in 2023 and 18.0% in 2015.
