Jason Clare retains education portfolio Jason Clare will retain the education portfolio after Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced his reshuffled cabinet on Monday afternoon. The National Catholic Education Commission (NCEC) executive director Jacinta Collins welcomed Minister Clare’s reappointment and acknowledged the government’s commitment to maintaining existing funding arrangements for non-government schools. 'These commitments are vital for the 820,000 students and their families in our 1,751 Catholic schools across the country who choose a Catholic education for their children', said Ms Collins. 'The NCEC also welcomes the Government’s support for sector-neutral policy development and its inclusion of Catholic education in key initiatives such as the Better and Fairer Schools Agreement, the Building the Early Education Fund, and student wellbeing programs.' Teacher experience and self-efficacy in the classroom The most recent OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) survey enables educators, policymakers and the wider community to compare Australian students with each other, as well as with their counterparts across the world. PISA also collects teacher questionnaire data to gain insights into teaching practices, learning activities and the school environment. Teacher self-efficacy refers to a teacher’s belief in their capability to help students learn and to influence their activities, effort and persistence in the classroom. This issue of Snapshots examines teacher self-efficacy in the classroom in relation to three competencies: classroom management, instruction and student engagement. It focuses on differences in these competencies between novice teachers (five years’ experience or less) compared to their experienced colleagues (five years’ experience or more).
