Role Description/Criteria

St Bernadette's School is seeking a committed, compassionate and collaborative professional to join our wellbeing team as Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (MHWL). This position has an FTE of 0.4 (2 days a week - days are negotiable). The role will commence in Term 3 - Week 1 and conclude on January 26th, 2027

The role of the MHWL is to support our school community’s mental health and wellbeing initiatives and directly contribute to the overall pastoral care of our students and families. The role will also include time working in classrooms.

Applicants are required to have:

  • a strong commitment to the Catholic faith and to Catholic Education
  • Accreditation to teach Religious Education in a Catholic School (desired)
  • qualifications in Student Wellbeing (desired)
  • recent success and experience in a leadership/wellbeing position
  • current VIT registration, inclusive of a Criminal Record check
  • a strong commitment to Child Safe Standards and the wellbeing of students and a commitment to the emotional and educational wellbeing of students.

The successful applicant will demonstrate their ability to meet the following selection criteria:

  • A demonstrated commitment to Catholic education and the pastoral care of students and their families, grounded in the values of compassion, inclusion, and dignity.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team, including leadership, learning diversity, and wellbeing staff, to deliver coordinated and effective support for students.
  • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, with the capacity to build trusting and respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and external agencies.
  • A proactive, student-centred approach to mental health and wellbeing, using data and reflective practice to inform decision-making and continuous improvement.
  • Experience in contributing to the development, implementation, and review of whole-school mental health, wellbeing, or learning strategies aligned with best practice frameworks.
  • Ability to navigate and establish referral pathways to internal and external support services, and to monitor and evaluate student outcomes in partnership with families and staff.
  • Develop and deliver preventative programs and workshops for students, parents, and staff.
  • Capacity to support a culture of wellbeing across the school by upskilling staff, promoting early intervention, and fostering strong connections between home and school.
