Formation

Home >Our Schools > School Advisory Councils > Formation

The process of ongoing learning and understanding of the ethos and spirit of a Catholic school, and the collective and individual role each member plays in the development of the School Advisory Council.

Melbourne Archdiocese Catholic Schools (MACS) will provide appropriate ongoing professional and spiritual formation material and opportunities for School Advisory Council members, including the parish priest and principal, around core principles underpinning Catholic education.

Each school is responsible for a formation program for their council that is focused on the vision and mission of the school, its particular founders and patrons through their charism, and the school’s connection to the wider Church through parish and diocese.

I encourage the formation of school advisory councils at primary and secondary levels that fit the pastoral model of each particular parish or association of parishes.
(Archbishop Peter A Comensoli, Working Together in Mission)

Each member brings to the formation process a willingness and openness reflective of their commitment to Catholic education in the parish and school. Formation aims to develop and enhance the qualities and skills needed by a council member, as outlined in Section 5 of the Terms of Reference.
