The Cre8te the Future team from Christ the King School, Newcombe, are taking their innovative ideas all the way to Europe.

The school participated in the National First Lego League competition in Sydney in early December and walked away as winners of the Inspiration Award. Their project saw them design a self-sufficient tourist attraction for Point Henry which didn’t use any of Geelong’s water supplies. The students pitched the idea to their local MP Christine Couzens, who then mentioned it in state parliament.

The First Lego League competition encourages groups of students to use STEM concept to solve real-world problems. The team have created a blog which details their project as well as the local, national and international experts they’ve worked with to develop their plans.

Sixty-eight schools were entered into the Sydney competition, and Christ the King School is one of only nine teams heading to Hungary to represent Australia in May. The school is now raising funds to allow their students to present their innovative approaches on an international stage.
