At the end of Term 3, a group of 12 Year 11 students from Marcellin College, Bulleen, headed off on the
Bourke Solidarity Camp. This annual event Image of students at Marcellin Solidarity Campchallenges students to develop a better understanding of solidarity – what it involves, why it’s important, and how easy it is to share Christ’s love with others.

During the camp, the group worked at St Ignatius Primary School, Bourke, and felt that while they may have helped the St Ignatius community, they gained much more from the open and welcoming way they were invited into the community.

Ms Lauren Magnus, Acting Principal at St Ignatius said, ‘We are extremely fortunate to have the boys from Marcellin College in Melbourne visiting us this week as part of their service. The Marist Brothers led the school community in the 1990s and early 2000s.

‘The boys have been excellent role models to the St Ignatius students by leading and joining in games on the playground, assisting in the classrooms and working very hard beautifying our school.’

Marcellin College Assistant Principal, Carolyn Young, said ‘I am very proud of the way they supported the Bourke community and each other throughout the nine days.

‘Their generous presence not only with the locals but with each other demonstrated that when we look at each other through the eyes of care, compassion and respect, we make Jesus’ love a reality for each other.’
