Former Catholic school principal Julie Ryan has been appointed Member of the Order of Australia for service to secondary education in the 2020 Australia Day Honours.

Currently the Regional Director of Marist Schools Australia, Ms Ryan was principal of Our Lady of Mercy College, Heidelberg, from 2005 to 2017, and principal of St Columba’s College, Essendon, from 2000 to 2004. She has been a life member of the Principals Association of Victorian Catholic Secondary Schools (PAVCSS) since 2017, having spent 10 years as a member of the executive team including time as president from 2012 to 2014. Ms Ryan was also president of the Australasian Mercy Secondary School Association from 2014 to 2017.
