Kolbe sports academy brochureKolbe Catholic College, Greenvale Lakes, has announced the launch of its sporting academy in 2021.

Inspired by the college’s Learning and Teaching Charter, the Kolbe Catholic College Sports Academy will provide a developmental and applied structure for learning that is informed by the Victorian Curriculum, Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), Vocational Education and Training (VET) and Victorian Certificate of Applied Learning (VCAL) standards of operation.

The academy will initially focus on basketball and will expand to encompass a range of other sports.

The basketball program aims to assist talented young male and female basketballers to achieve at the highest levels of performance, and to help them with their personal education, vocational development and sporting aspirations through:

  • providing strong partnerships with community organisations, sporting clubs and universities
  • balancing sporting ambitions and academic studies
  • developing advanced skills, knowledge and an understanding of pathways that lead to VCE, VET and VCAL programs.

Commencing in Year 7, the program focuses on advanced game play, skill development and sports leadership, with students developing knowledge, skills and understanding associated with:

  • nutrition
  • game tactics
  • strength and conditioning
  • refereeing and umpiring
  • sports psychology
  • media presentation
  • sports injuries
  • goal setting and mentoring
  • athlete development and success
  • mindset and wellbeing
  • post-athlete pathways.
