Emmaus College, Vermont South, held a very successful 2020 Emmaus Day celebration last Friday through the school’s Facebook page. Principal Tony Hirst said: ‘Emmaus College has a very longstanding custom of celebrating Emmaus Day. Student leaders plan the day many months ahead and it is a genuine highlight on the annual school calendar.’

The event was entirely virtual this year, without the girls football match and the Year 11 versus Year 12 Sheely Challenge. ‘Who would have won in 2020? We’ll never know!’ said Mr Hirst. Nonetheless, college captains Corrine and Zachary opened the day promising a Trivia Kahoot, Emmaus Has Talent and the Emmaus Day Mass, as well as some new awards.

‘Student leaders were still determined that the important day should be recognised and, with the assistance of teachers, we held our first ever Virtual Emmaus Day’, said Mr Hirst. ‘As it was not a full day, students and staff also had some much needed personal wellbeing time in the afternoon. It turned out to be a great success!’
